- Install, configure and maintain servers and networks;
- Oversee system performance and troubleshoot issues;

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Soft robotics engineer

YOUR TEAM
The Soft Biorobotics Perception Research line is coordinated by Dr. Lucia Beccai, who has extensive experience in bioinspired smart tactile sensing systems, bionics, biorobotics and soft robotics. The research aim is to create new soft robots with embodied sensing processes based on the investigation of natural-like physical interactions (like those of an elephant trunk gripping food or other items), to eventually develop totally new robotic solutions that can ‘see the world’ and intelligently interact with it. You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where engineers (mechanical, electrical, biomedical etc.), material and computer science experts, collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research with outstanding facilities.
Within the team, your main responsibility will be:
- to technically support the research activities for the development of soft transduction systems (design, fabrication, test);
- to assist in lab logistics, lab safety procedures, purchasing of goods/equipment.
- ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- MSc in Mechatronics, Electronic Engineering or engineering-related areas;
- Hands-on-skills:
- Design/assembly/test of electromechanical set-ups;
- Software/programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Labview, Matlab, etc.) for testing of soft sensors and actuators, and data analysis;
- Electronic instruments (e.g. oscilloscopes, multimeter, data logger, analyzers);
- Universal testing machines (stress/strain, indentation)
- Good knowledge of electronic and mechanical CAD software;
- Proved experience in working in an experimental laboratory;
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment;
- Efficient to properly organize, store, and report research data;
- Good command in spoken and written English.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Knowledge of Comsol multiphysics software to study coupled or multiphysics phenomena, and to perform simulations of mechanical, optical and electrical systems;
- Knowledge of characterization tools at the microscale and optical analysis (e.g. SEM, digital microscope, etc.)
- Skills on elastomeric materials casting, molding, demolding, curing techniques;

Technical position in Mechanical design and Mechatronics
The Humanoid and Human Centred Mechatronics (HHCM) Research Line (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/humanoids-human-centered-mechatronics) at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) an English-language research Institute placed in Genoa, Italy, is seeking to full-time appoint a Mechatronic/Robot design/assembly Engineer who will have a key role on the area of mechanical design, assembly and debugging of prototype robotic systems.
We are looking for highly motivated Mechanical Engineers with experience in designing and hands-on skills in building and troubleshooting of robotic and mechanical systems. Specific responsibilities of the job would include the following:
- Design and assemble new robot mechanical components using 3D/2D CAD design tools.
- Physically inspect, evaluate and troubleshoot mechanical hardware issues
- Integrate mechanical and electronic components to fully assemble novel customized robot prototypes.
- Interact with mechanical workshops and evaluate manufacturers and suppliers of nonstandard parts.
The ideal candidate should possess a Mechanical Engineer degree and be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent knowledge of CAD software tools (primarily with Pro Engineer and ANSYS, other relevant also welcome).
- Very good experience in understanding and working with technical mechanical drawings.
- At least 3 years of experience in the design/assembly and debugging of practical electro-mechanical systems.
- Excellent hands-on skills in the assembly of mechanical parts.
- Very good experience in interacting with mechanical workshop personnel as well as in operating standard workshop machinery including 3D rapid prototype machines.
